Senior Vice President R&D Statnett
Sonja BERLIJN received her M.Sc. degree from the TUE, Eindhoven, the Netherlands in 1994, her PhD degree from TUG, Graz, Austria, in 2000 and her MBA in 2012 from Melbourne University. She has been working at the High Voltage Laboratory of KEMA; the Netherlands, and at STRI in Sweden. From 2008 to 2014 she has been working at the overhead line department at Statnett and she is responsible for a number of R&D activities and for the electromechanical design of the world’s largest voltage upgrading project. And working with topics such as live line working, insulation coordination, PLS CADD, EMF calculations, and much more.
In 2012 she became manager for the R&D program ‘Lean Line’. In 2014 she became both acting Senior Vice President for Statnett’s R&D and part-time professor in Power Systems at the NMBU.
Since June 2015 she is Senior Vice President R&D for Statnett. Since 2016 she is Chairman of the NRD (Nordic R&D group).
From 1993-2008 she was a member of CIGRE WG D1.33 “High Voltage Testing and Measuring Techniques”. From 2009 – 2014 she is a member of TC 11 High voltage power lines. Since November 2014 she is a member of the ENTSOE-RDIC. Since 2019 she is board member of Energi21. She is also a board member of the Norwegian Smart Grid Center.
In 1998 she got a Working Group Recognition Award from PES IEEE and in 1999 she got the prize paper award from ISH 99/Hydro-Quebec. In 2012 she won the ‘knowlegde’ prize at Statnett.
